Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
write Fortran programs for solving numerically various mathematical problems;
understand potential problems in numerical, finite precision calculation;
describe data in terms of known functions;
understand basic numerical methods for solving algebraic equations, integration, solving differential equations and optimization.

Contents

The Fortran 90/95 programming language, concepts of parallel programming. Basic concepts of numerical analysis.
Numerical solution of equations and sets of linear equations, interpolation, numerical integration, numerical solution of differential equations, optimization. Fourier transforms, basic theory of image processing.
The course contains a number of demanding computer exercises that require programming.
