General description

The course provides a comprehensive overview about global coastal environments including physical coastal processes and geomorphology. Different coastal environments in the world are reviewed with their typical processes and landforms. Special attention is paid to global environmental change and its impacts on coastal zones. Coastal resources, conflicts and coastal zone management principles are presented. A portion of the course is dedicated to the specific environmental features of the Baltic Sea coasts.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the world's coasts, their specific processes and landforms, and understanding of the human pressures and their management in the coastal regions.

Contents

Introduction to coasts as natural and human environments. Oceanic sea level changes, physical coastal processes, coastal environment types with their characteristic landforms. Baltic Sea coasts. Overview of coastal management.
