Learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to expose students to realistic biological and medical questions, taken from daily laboratory practice. This course provides the students with the necessary background, tools and know-how concerning suitable methods to solve problems in molecular biology and drug development, and (later) in their own research.


This course covers many of the classical and modern techniques that are useful to understand the molecular basis for a spectrum of diseases. Our topics will range from molecular biology tools to cell-based and animal models, from established high-content & high-throughput screening to novel thinking (out of the box), from conservation biology to gene therapy.

Teaching methods

This course will also include demonstrations and practical "hands on" experiences in the laboratories of the organizers
