Special attention will be given to Russian foreign policy towards the Baltic Sea Region. Seminar sessions will concern cases important for understanding of contemporary Russian foreign policy.

Contents

Russian Foreign Policy-course will evaluate on the evolution of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation since adoption of the Constitution of 1993. Despite the Constitution of 1993 provided the institution of the president with the powers to conduct foreign policy independently, Russian foreign policy has been strongly influenced by political parties and interest groups, especially institutionalized interest groups such as various ministries and regional governments, and associated interest groups such as business associations. At the same time, the personality of the president must also be taken into account when analyzing Russian foreign policy; the course will not only focus on the personality of Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister in 1999 and in 2008-2012 and President in 2000-2008 and again since 2012, but also provide with comparative analysis of his personality vis-à-vis the personalities of Boris Yeltsin, President in 1991-1999, and of Dmitry Medvedev, President in 2008-2012 and Prime Minister since 2012.
