Learning outcomes

After completing lectures, a student
- understands the basic elements, principles and premises of designing individual, collective and service work in organizations.
- knows and finds ways to identify discrepancies and anomalies of work practices and ICT-designs in human activities as vehicle for change within and between organizations.

After completing the fieldwork students can design and implement of work and related information systems in their real context based on analysis of the work system.

Contents

The course looks into applying information technology in the context of human activity - in work and in business along five themes: individual's work, collective work, services as reciprocal collective work, knowledge, skill, responsibility in work, and change of work. Central frameworks of the course are process design, activity theory, work practices development and Viable Systems Model for systemic change and change management in the context of ICT and human activity systems.

The separate fieldwork consists of applying the lessons learnt on the classes with additional guidance to ethnographic research method in practice.

The course is not offered in 2015-2016. The course will be offered next time in Autumn 2016.
Students, who wish to take this course can be subjected to a pre-exam, if the course is fully-booked. In this case passing the pre-exam is a prerequisite for participating into the course.
