Learning outcomes

This course is directed towards those who wish to learn about, or have considered, the establishment of a new venture (in whatever context). After completing the course the students have a better understanding of entrepreneurship, the tools and techniques that would assist in the formation of a business, and a better understanding of how to reduce the risk of failure in a start-up situation.
Objectives of the course:
1) To offer both a strong theoretical and practical insight into entrepreneurship,
2) To develop a general understanding of the problems involved with starting a business,
3) To developed strong presentation skills,
4) To establish the importance of entrepreneurial behaviour in many different contexts,
5) To engender business ownership as a realistic career option.

The course is taught primarily through the use of case studies. The main thrust of the course is to develop in the student an understanding of the personal and professional skills required when establishing an enterprise. It will do this by challenging a student's own perception of self-fit with entrepreneurial activity by placing them within the role of an entrepreneur. The role of business planning is also touched upon.
