Learning outcomes

Student will understand the most important structural, thermal and magnetic properties of solids. The students are also able to scientific articles written on these topics and interpret experimental data.

Contents

Atomic bonds in solids, crystal structures (incl. amorphic, quasi- and liquid crystals), reciprocal lattice and neutron and x-ray diffraction. Defects in crystals, phonons, thermal properties (e.g. heat conductance and capacitance) and magnetic materials. The experimental methods and results connected to the previous.
