Learning outcomes

The course is intended to provide an introduction to soft materials chemistry focusing on functional mainly organic materials.

Contents

Chemical and electrochemical method of synthesis of electronically conducting polymers. The chemical and physical properties of these compounds and their characterization with different techniques. Fullerenes and their chemistry, their characterization in liquid and solid phase. Polymerization of fullerenes and fullerene-metal polymers. Synthesis, purification and characterization of carbon nanotubes. Characterization of different allotropic forms of carbon and some inorganic materials. Presentation of different techniques of nanostructuring of conducting polymers, fullerenes and carbon nanotube materials. Examples of applications of the different materials in optical devices (light emitting diodes, organic solar cells, smart windows etc), transistors, sensors, medical applications.
