Learning outcomes

After the course, the students have an understanding of the themes of responsible business and master the relevant related concepts. Based on the introductory course, students can deepen their knowledge in other courses of Studies on Responsible Business (25 ECTS).

Contents

The course aims to provide a basic understanding of why responsible business matters, and what responsible business consists in. To this end, the course deals with central and topical issues related to responsible business including corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability and sustainable development, sustainability reporting, environmental management & management systems, stakeholder engagement and sustainable consumption & social movements. In parallel, the course seeks to offer students an appreciation of the means through which sustainable change can be achieved or inhibited, be it via individual or collective action. The role of business and industry in building a more sustainable society is addressed. The course seeks to spark critical change agency within the participants toward building a better future. In addition to the examination and class discussions, students compare in teams sustainability strategies of two multinational firms and try out a sustainability related change in their daily life.
