Learning outcomes

During the course, students will acquire knowledge and understanding on the role of multinational corporations (MNCs) and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the global economy. After the completion of the course, students should be able to (1) describe the basic theories explaining FDI and understand MNCs' various motives for FDI; (2) describe and compare the different entry modes of FDI; (3) understand the factors influencing the location choice of FDI; (4) describe and understand the impact of FDI on host countries; and (5) describe and analyze current trends in global and regional FDI flows. The course will develop students' independent learning, written communication, and analytical skills.

Teaching methods

1. Introductory lecture in English 2 h (Pelto), attendance is strongly recommended.
2. Independent study online in Moodle environment consisting of independent reading and writing essays (and for 6 ECTS also a broader written report).

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 0-5.
The grade for the course (as 4 credits) is based on 4 essays on given topics, and (for 6 credits) additionally on a broader report on a given theme.

Further information

Restricted attendance! In case of excess demand, TSE students majoring in international business have priority over others. This course is not available for exhange students.
