Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students should be able to:
- to identify various ELF / BELF communicative strategies at the 3 levels
- participate in activities which foster development of ELF /BELF competence
- apply various ELF / BELF communicative strategies independently in intercultural situations


The course is aimed at students who will work in global organizations in order to help them understand the linguistic, pragmatic and social features of English and Business English as a lingua franca (ELF / BELF).
This task-based course focuses on the development of linguistic, pragmatic & social features of English / Business English as a lingua franca and the communication strategies and strategic skills necessary for working and surviving in the global business community. The tri-level approach explores individual, team and organizational components of ELF / BELF. These levels look at how ELF / BELF competence is developed, multicultural competence in teams are fostered through ELF / BELF, and how business knowhow at an organizational level expresses itself through BELF.
