Learning outcomes

During this practically oriented course students will attain, identify and develop those general professional skills that they will need in the working life and that will enhance their employability. They will learn e.g. how to improve their oral and written presentation skills, how to use different presentation platforms and techniques, how to apply their knowledge-based academic expertise in various working life situations, and how to enhance their group working and intercultural communication skills. They will become familiar with requirements of project management and learn to develop personal strategies for information and knowledge management.


Students are familiarized with various skills required by academic professionals in today's working life. They will be instructed how to identify and market their knowledge-based personal expertise and skills. Course will include various presentation, discussion, debate and problem-solving tasks and simulations where students get to practice and develop their skills. Students participate also in the courses offered by the UTU Career Services, such as Career Planning Group, Working in Finland, Project Management and CV Clinic. They will prepare and update personal professional portfolios, where they record the development and accumulation of their skills. These portfolios have to be submitted in the middle of the third semester.
