Learning outcomes

on completion of this course, students have a good understanding of wireless sensor network, its application and role in systems-of-systems. More specifically, they get the necessary knowledge on fundamental concepts, principles and building blocks which provide them the skills to build various wireless sensor network based applications. Students are able to analyze and compare protocols, algorithms and security solution which allow them to make correct design choices and tradeoffs based on available resources and application requirements. They will also understand very well the interrelation and integration challenges of wireless sensor networks with internet-of-things and cyber-physical systems in systems-of-systems perspective which give them the foundation for implementing complex systems.


Topics covered include fundamental concepts and principles, node architectures, MAC, routing and clustering protocols and algorithms, synchronization, power management strategies, and security issues. Localization, operating systems and sensor network programming will also be covered briefly. Several case-study applications will be discussed from their requirements and implementation point of view. The relationship and integration issues of sensor networks with internet-of-things and cyber-physical systems for the realization of systems-of-systems will be covered.
