Learning outcomes

The course offers students basic understanding of health and wellbeing technologies, and of the domain the technologies are used in. As such, the course is intended as a low-threshold introduction and does on require any prior knowledge. Even though technology is the overarching theme of the course, additional topics include operations and business models of the domain. Upon completion, the students will be able to understand the main characteristics of the domain (including basic concepts), associated technologies, and they understand how health and wellbeing technologies as a multidisciplinary field align with other ones.


The lectures are organized according to two primary themes, digitalization and technology. The first theme focuses on the impact technology has on the domains of health care, social services and wellbeing. As the name suggests, the second theme focuses on technologies, and on the related basic concepts. These themes are intertwined and inseparable; the students are not able to pick only one, or complete the themes at different times. In order to gain a more thorough understanding on the discussed topics, additional exercises are included in the course (see below for more information).

Teaching methods

The course consists of lectures, group discussions and exercises, and electronic examination.
