Learning outcomes

After the course students can

Identify the concepts of product and technology road mapping and analyze their link to the larger context of company strategy
Recognize and categorize the aspects, enablers and limitations typically impacting development of a technology on a long term.
Demonstrate communicating product development outlook for a given product in a 3-5 year perspective.
Recognize the concept of disruptive technology and compare its nature and impact through given case studies.
Recognize the working environment of a technology professional from the viewpoint of Chief Technology Officer and Identify other key stakeholders with their different (financial, marketing, legal, etc. non-technical) viewpoints to technology development.

Contents

The engineering graduates entering their professional position within technology industry, both as R&D professionals to develop new technology products and as technology experts to serve the user organizations will find it essential to understand the long term drivers for technologies and learn to plan development with a long view.
This course provides a high level view on managing technology and product lifecycle in high technology business. It discusses the essentials of product and technology roadmaps, their relation to company strategy, concepts of technology lifecycle, disruptive technologies and the role of technology leadership towards internal and external stakeholders.
