Learning outcomes

After the completion of the course the student has understanding of the key characteristics of multimedia signals and applications and the requirements they place on the contemporary and future communication networks. The student is able to specify the key requirements placed on the communication networks by multimedia transportation.

Contents

This course addresses how to transport various types of media over wired and wireless networks with required QoS. Covered topics include multimedia signals and compression, HDTV, 3DTV, QoS for different applications, error control and rate control. The growing bandwidth requirement of (ultra) high definition video transmission over converging Internet broadband networks is a key topic.
