Learning outcomes

Students will have a good understanding of the nature of viral pathogens and of their occurrence and significance in plant hosts, of their pathogenicity factors, and of the different plant responses and plant defense mechanism that are induced in plants by virus infections.


Coverage of the molecular features and taxonomic classes of different plant viruses; infections types, symptoms and effects on plant growth; different viral life cycles; interference with the host cells: 1) localization within host cell compartments, 2) association with different host factors, 3) alterations of host functions and gene expression. Different defense mechanisms in the hosts.
