Learning outcomes

Students will understand the concepts of renewable biofuels and sustainable fuel production systems. Students will gain (and critically process) information on the future demands, associated problems and solutions for sustainable fuel production.


The course centers on sustainable bioenergy in general, with the focus on microbial platforms for renewable biofuel production, possibilities for direct conversion of solar energy into desired end-products in photosynthetic cyanobacterial hosts, metabolic engineering (e.g. pathway modification and synthetic biology tools) and related biotechnological applications.
