Learning outcomes

Network theory is a new interdisciplinary area to whose development researchers with background in physics have given a great contribution. This development has also been motivated by increasing amounts of data becoming available on social, information, and physical complex networks. The objectives of the course are understanding the basic mathematical framework of network theory, how to characterize and quantify various properties of networks, and understanding the structure and origin of the most important types of networks.

Contents

Mathematical framework for networks, central measures and metrics for their characterization,
the most important types of networks (random, scale free, small-world), and community structure and its detection in networks.
