Learning outcomes

Understanding quantum nature of light and basics of photon statistics. Interaction of light with matter, and to become acquainted with the theoretical and experimental methods of the field.
Understanding the basic concepts and protocols of quantum information processing and communication.

Contents

Photon states and their description. Coherent states. Interaction between photons and atoms. Non-classical states of light such as squeezed light. Experiments with interferometers and beamsplitters. Dissipation and decoherence. Tests of quantum mechanics. Quantum bit (qubit). Basics of classical information theory and the quantum counterparts. Quantum computing and communication, and basics of experimental realizations.
