Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to learn vertebrate anatomy and physiology and the indicated evolutionary adaptations in them. The course covers the differences in basic anatomy and physiology of fish, frog, bird (chicken), mammal (rat). The histological differences are studied in applicable details.

The student should learn to dissect animals, make preparations and understand the anatomical and physiological differences of the four central classes of vertebrates. This course gives good basic skills for performing animal experiments and, e.g. for selecting a suitable experimental animal model.
The course extends the skills acquired on the laboratory animal course.

Basic anatomy and physiology of fish, frog, bird and mammal:
- skin
- body cavities
- musculosceletal system
- respiratory organs
- central nervous system
- digestive organs
- lymphatic system
- urinary and reproductive organs
