General description

The course is integrated in nature and covers all of the language skills: it offers tuition in speaking, written work, and listening and reading comprehension.

Learning outcomes

The student should be able to understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. He/she should be able communicate in tasks requiring simple information on familiar topics and activities. He/she should be able understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. He/she should be able write simple text connected with topics which are familiar or of personal interest.

Contents

Students will learn more about the structures of the Finnish language, e.g., the conjugation of verbs in the passive form, the tenses of the verbs, the conditional structures and the use of object in sentences.

Themes: travelling, clothes, health and sickness, body parts, Finnish nature, freetime and hobbies.
The course includes structural exercises, communication skills tasks, listening and reading comprehension exercises, and writing tasks, which will be prepared at home.
