Learning outcomes

The student will gain a deep understanding in the most significant tectonic settings and learns to understand the relationships between plate tectonics and magmatic, metamorphic and structural evolution of the crust. The student learns making orogenic-scale structural interpretations.


The tectonic parts are covered by lectures and the orogenic-scale structural work by analogue modelling and correlations with literature. The tectonic settings covered include e.g. the following topics: Rifting, Extensional Orogens, Continental collision, Accretion, Strike-slip tectonics, Mid-crustal flow, Channel flow
