Learning outcomes

To understand the main elements in wearable computing (such as data collection, processing, communication, and HW/SW components) and its applications (e.g. in health domain). Students learn methodologies and technology foundations in wearable computing. They will be familiar with the design issues of wearable computing and be able to apply design principles and their knowledge in computer and electrical engineering into real-world applications. The capability of design thinking, innovative applications and solutions are the main outcomes of this course.


Small and cheap electronics offered by the current technologies has opened new applications in wearable domains and thus many business opportunities. Wearable computers refer to miniature electronic devices that are incorporated into clothes and accessories. Wearable computing devices can be connected to each other through a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) which constantly interact with their physical environment by using sensors. Wearable computing is the practice of developing or using computational sensory devices for a wide range of applications. One such devices can be designed for monitoring physiological signals to continuously check for irregularities in human bodies or animals. Topics of this course cover the main elements of wearable computing such as sensory integration, human-computer interaction, and behavioral modeling. Projects focus on the new applications of wearable computing (e.g. in health, entertainment, and sport domains), required sensory devices, and sensory integration.
