Learning outcomes

The course gives the necessary skills and knowledge to plan, prepare, conduct, and report usability tests within laboratory settings. Students will also get an idea what user-centered design and experimental studies contain in general.

Contents

The course consists of two parts:
A. The students read and take an examination on the book: Barnum, C.M. Usability Testing Essentials: Ready, Set... Test!, Morgan Kaufmann, 2011. See the e-exam service (https://tenttis.utu.fi/) and Moodle-page for the exam dates and questions.

B. After passing the exam, the students can begin the empirical part, i.e. plan and carry out a usability test for the selected product using the laboratory facilities of the Work Informatics User Experience (WIUX) Laboratory. This empirical part is preferably done in groups of two students.
