BTEK1042 Recombinant antibody technologies 3 op

Learning outcomes

The student knows the key technologies used in the development of recombinant antibodies and various other affinity reagents. After the course, the student knows the most import applications of the recombinant antibodies and understands the advantages of the recombinant antibody technologies as compared to the traditional methods of antibody generation.


The topics of the course include directed evolution techniques (random mutagenesis methods and protein display techniques), types and use of recombinant binder libraries as well as methods of producing recombinant antibodies. Other biomolecule based binders, as alternative to antibodies, will be introduced, too. In addition, possibilities of recombinant antibodies as diagnostic or research tools and as therapeutic agents will also be described.
