Learning outcomes

The main goal of the study module is to introduce the terminology, and bioinformatics resources and tools related to drug target identification and validation.

Contents

Biological databases and database searching. Bioinformatics tools in drug development. Theory of evolution. Microchips and data analysis. In vivo disease models. Bioinformatics for mouse models. Knockout and transgenic techniques. Xenocrafts and models of chemical carcinogenesis. Preparation of microscopic specimens. Applications of PET imaging.

Numeric 0-5.
Students should be able to name focal areas of bioinformatics and be able to search and apply these various bioinformatics databases in research. In addition, students understand the principles and use of various in vivo disease models and applied methodology.
