Learning outcomes

Basic knowledge of enzymes, receptors, nucleic acids, structural proteins, carbohydrates and membranes as drug targets, pharmacokinetics, discovery of lead compounds and optimization of their structure, pro-drug strategies, process of drug approval, selected examples of antibacterial, antiviral agents and anticancer drugs.


Medicinal chemistry is a discipline at the intersection of synthetic organic chemistry and pharmacology having a shared goal: design and synthesis of bio-active molecules and further development of the best candidates to compounds that fulfill all the rigorous demands put to pharmaceutical agents. The lecture course tends to offer an introduction to this extensive field.
