Learning outcomes

The student can discuss complex reaction mechanisms on the basis of elementary reaction steps and derive rate laws for the reactions, understands the basic properties of fluids and the importance of diffusion for molecular processes, understands the mechanisms of energy and electron transfer at the molecular level, and knows the physical principles of electrochemistry.


Fundamental kinetics (collision, transition state theory), kinetics of complex chemical reactions (steady state and other approximations, chain reactions, polymerisation reactions, enzyme kinetics, nonlinear effects, oscillations, chaos), properties of fluids (viscosity, sedimentation), diffusion, nanomachines, photochemistry and molecular energy transfer, photoinduced and thermal electron transfer (homogeneous, intramolecular, supramolecular, Marcus theory), molecular electronics, physical electrochemistry (heterogeneous electron transfer, potential scales, Gerischer-Marcus model), electrochemical systems (Butler-Volmer kinetics, mass transfer effects, coupled proton transfer, examples of electrochemical systems).
