Osaamistavoitteet

The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the key HRM related practices, concepts and theories. On completion of this course, the student should have gained:
1/ A basic understanding of the complex question of HRM's contribution to employee and organizational wellbeing as well as performance.
2/ Understanding of fundamentals of human resource management: concepts and practices.
3/ Critical thinking skills about Human Resource Management.
4/ Developed skills in identifying and arguing for the suitability of various HRM practices.

Sisältö

The specific topics covered include:
Introduction: The concept of HRM; the role of HRM, HRM & individual and organizational performance, Motivating through rewards and recognition; compensation, Psychological contract and commitment, Recruitment and selection; Performance appraisal, Downsizing & Restructuring, Training and Development; Talent management, Heath and HRM; Ill behavior at work, Organizational culture & change, Engagement; HRM and enhancing creativity and innovation, Organizational control, power and political process in organizations, HRM, ethics and organizational learning.
The course consists of lectures and seminars. Seminars include role play as well as case analysis. During the course the participants also get practice in writing academic texts and arguing for their views in class.

At least 50 per cent ('pass') is required for all different elements of the examination in order to pass the course. Group performance will be assessed as a joint effort, i.e. everybody receives the same mark. Please note that the points you receive for the sub-parts are valid only this academic year.
