Learning outcomes

After the completion of the course the student understands the logic and nature of scientific argumentation related to various methodological approaches, data collection and analysis methods. The idea is not to study singular methods per se but to learn how to design scientific inquiry and how to eloquently argue for one's methodological choices.

Contents

Doctoral candidates write independently two reports in which he/she analyses methodological choices of two doctoral dissertations accepted in Finland or other European country (written in English). One of the reports will be presented in a seminar. In addition to writing the reports learning will be based on interaction, i.e. comments and discussions in the two-day seminar.
