Learning outcomes

Entrepreneurship has an important role in the current welfare society. In order to succeed organisations of different size operating in global and changing business environment are in need of entrepreneurial competences - i.e. capabilities to create renewal, new businesses and innovations. Similarly, persons with academic doctoral skills need entrepreneurial competences to be able to
accommodate with the challenges related to changing working life.

After the entrepreneurship course the postgraduate researchers understand the multifaceted phenomenon of entrepreneurship and its implications and role in individual
and company level. In addition, the students understand what it takes to commit oneself to entrepreneurship and new business creation and are able to assess their own relationship to entrepreneurship.

The course provides introduction to entrepreneurship by looking at entrepreneurship at individual and company level. The core themes include entrepreneurship as a career opportunity; business idea and opportunity creation; business planning; business growth; and corporate entrepreneurship within existing organisations (private and public ones). During the course the students assess their own entrepreneurial resources in terms of competences and networks for example, and perform exercises on (business) idea generation in teams resulting in rapid pitching-exercises aiming to sell their ideas to the others. The students will also familiarize themselves with the (local) entrepreneurial ecosystem which provides various support for entrepreneurs.

The course is run in collaboration in BoostTurku/SparkUp and the university's entrepreneurship agent(s) who provide assistance in finding relevant start-up support.
