Learning outcomes

The course participants should know the main fields of research on health care IS, and be able contribute to the research in the field, both individually and as experts in health care -related organizations.


The course introduces the concepts of medical informatics, health informatics and e-health. Special challenges of doing research at the intersection between IS, organizational and
medical research are being discussed. Design of governance structures and processes for health care is at the core of the course, as well as different national environments, both regulatory and technical, for health care are being investigated. New paradigms of health, such as patient empowerment, and peer-to-peer support, are being explored. Assessment of health care systems and their cost-benefit analysis are a central topic for the course too.
