Learning outcomes

The students understand the basic principles of scientific communication from Master's thesis to peer-reviewed publications and conferences. They can describe and contrast the structure of scientific article and Master's thesis as well as of popular articles and social media. They can appreciate the importance of research ethics and open science. The students are able to query literature databases and manage their own collection of references.

Aims and significance of scientific publishing for academia and society, ethics in research and publishing, author roles in different stages of research career

Publication types, publishing process, open-access publishing, fake and predatory journals

Library-related skills regarding publication databases and literature searches as well as references and their management
