Learning outcomes

To gain knowledge how to plan and implement a scientific research: Student can make a research plan that fulfills the scientific criteria, carry out the practical laboratory work and critically analyze the data. Student is able to give both oral and written presentation of the research.

Contents

Five-month intensive research performed under supervision. Subject of the thesis is provided by the supervisor of the research project. The results of the research project are presented in public scientific seminar.

Teaching methods

The student will together with supervisor make a research plan, which will be approved by the professor in charge. After laboratory period, the student will make a short report that is accepted by a supervisor. The results from the research project will be presented in Nuoret tutkijat seminar using common procedures known from scientific meetings: she/he will make an abstract, a scientific poster and oral presentation of 20 min. Students are recommend to listen the seminar already in the first year of master's studies.
