Learning outcomes

The student understands the biophysical basics of photosynthesis and the most important biophysical research techniques, including biophysical modeling of the results.

Contents

The lectures describe the concepts of energy and chemical equilibrium, reaction kinetics, interaction between light and matter, light reactions and electron transfer in photosynthesis, quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence, thermoluminescence, reduction of P700, electrochromic shift, probing the redox state of QA with fluorescence, and use of modeling software. In the practicals, the students measure and model the results of oxygen flash yield, thermoluminescence, decay of fluorescence yield after a single turnover flash and P700 redox state and electrochromic shift.
