Learning outcomes

Students will undertake an independent practical work in the area of fluvial or coastal environments. Students choose two independent works out of three. Practicals include work on catchment modelling, hydraulic flow modelling, coastal environment monitoring and water quality measurements. After finishing this practical work course, students have improved their practical research skills in fluvial and coastal studies and the related field measurements and modelling approaches.

General description

The course includes starting lecture (attendance compulsory), demonstrations to practicals (attendance compulsory), independent practical work, practical work report and final seminar presentation (attendance compulsory). Students will work on their practical work independently, report their findings in the form of practical report and seminar presentation.

To succeed in the course, students are expected to have basic knowledge on fluvial and coastal geography (such as the lecture course MAAN7363 Fluvial and Coastal environments) and good skills in GIS (such as MAAN6732 Paikkatietomenetelmät I and MAAN6733 Methods in GIS II).
